World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
Upgrades to items can be used to improve the stats of an item. Depending on the upgrade type it can increase an item's Mark Level or Rarity and boost additional stats.
Upgrades to gear in The War Within requires a specified number of Flightstones and Crests and each item has an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next one by a certain amount.
Item Level
When an item gets upgraded, its basic stats increase in value. This value is the total of all its upgraded benefits (attack magic attack, attack defense). The cost of upgrading items can be high depending on the upgrader you choose and what kind of upgrade you decide to perform. This is due to the variety of perks that need to be modified to upgrade an item.
Item level is a commonly used measurement of power and can be seen on all item tooltips. It also serves to limit the amount of PvP gear players are able to wear as PvP is restricted at lower levels. The average level of an item is listed on the character sheet.
Utilizing the level of an item will allow players to compare the strength of equipment when choosing to buy or sell. It's a sign of the item's damage and quality. Comparing items in the inventory of a seller can be done by using the level of the item.
The level of the item can be viewed by pressing the ALT key on your PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will display the item's full description, including the ilvl. It is also accessible by hovering an item with the mouse cursor and entering /itemlevel into chat.
There are a few theories about how the calculation of an item's level is made. One theory states that the item level is determined by an equation that determines the worth of an item's stats really are. It takes into consideration the fact that various perks have different value and that gems in sockets add to the item's overall value. This process can result in a calculated value for the item's level, which is usually quite close to Blizzard's actual level of the item.
This is not the only factor that influences the level of an item. The level of the area where the item was dropped can change its stats. For instance, it could add a level to the item's haste or crit rating. This means that items dropped at higher levels will have more ilvl than those from lower-level instances.
Item Stats
The stats of an item are a major part of what determines the value of an item for players. The game makes use of them in various ways to encourage players not to restrict themselves to a particular weapon and to motivate them to try out other weapons. The stats of a base weapon are enhanced by the weapon's stat mods that are in turn enhanced by the player's level.
The upgrades to an item can increase the stats of an item. The rarity of an item determines its cost of upgrading. A grey or white item for instance, can only be upgraded once and items with rare tiers may be upgraded multiple times with higher prices.
Affixes can also be used to change an item's stats. They are stat boosts that can be added by the player to an item. Affixes are used to give items extra damage or special abilities (such as reviving dead or reducing cooling downs), or to make them unique by putting a name on them.
At present, all affixes can be rerolled by selecting them from the upgrade window and pressing the green button with the arrows that circle. This will cost a certain amount in gold and items. These can be used as upgrade gauges, just like the other rerolling methods.
In addition to rerolling affixes, players can also choose which stats to keep on an item after it is upgraded. item upgrader of stats is determined by the item's level. However every item will include at least one stat within that range unless they are a unique item or the item is a God Roll from a boss in a raid.
This is another aspect that could be altered by adding an option to upgrade the equipment without having to reroll the affixes or choosing which stats to increase. However, as with the base equipment, this would have to be performed on a per-item basis, and the item compare interface wouldn't show all possible stats gained or lost at once.
Item Luck
The Luck stat of a player stacks up to increase the odds of finding items as well as the properties that appear on loot drops, and the intensity of those properties. It doesn't, however, directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade item s. It merely gives players a chance to acquire better equipment earlier in the game and is thus more valuable in the initial game run than later ones because most players value higher weapon scaling and defenses over raw damage gains.
Luck can also increase the chances of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade probability which increases with each level of the item and can be further enhanced through the use of an anti-material such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.
The shields, armor and weapons have a default Luck value of 40. These items can then be enhanced with golden ingots, spined leather or oak boards (depending on the item's material type) to give +40 Luck or to increase the Luck of an item up to 140.
Moreover there are certain items, like the Hollow weapon, which is infused with Hollow can be used to increase the damage of any damage-dealing skill by five percent. These items can be found in the shop or crafted by using the appropriate ingredients.
Item Failure
Not all upgrades work. Cash shop items can be used to increase the chances of success for an upgrade or to stop players from losing their item in the event that it does not work.
The rate of success of an upgrade is shown in the Honing UI. The percentage is the chances of successfully upgrading the item and can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limits to the extent to which success rates can be increased and the probability of a failed upgrade cannot exceed 100%.
The success of an item upgrade s is also influenced by the luck of that item. Every item has a base success rate of 25% and each item with Luck increases the chance of success by 5percent.
The item upgrade overlays are rendered above the items in the inventory. This could cause obscurity to enchantment effects or other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
